After landing at the beautiful Changi Airport, you have several options for getting around Singapore. The most convenient option is to take a taxi from the airport to your hotel. It takes about 25 minutes to reach the city center, and the fare is typically around 25 SGD. Taxis are available 24/7 at all three terminals of Changi Airport.
Grab
For a cheaper alternative, you can use Grab, which is essentially the Asian version of Uber. Simply download the Grab app, create a profile, and you’ll be able to request a ride from the nearest driver. We also used this app extensively in Malaysia, and it’s very convenient for getting around Singapore.
MRT (Mass Rapid Transit)
If you’re looking for the most affordable option, the MRT is a great choice. It’s inexpensive, with fares ranging from 3 to 5 SGD, and it will take you approximately 30 minutes to reach the city center. For ease, I recommend purchasing a 3-day MRT Singapore tourist pass, which costs 25 SGD and offers unlimited travel on public transport. We bought this pass, and it was incredibly convenient for our daily explorations.
Best Sightseeing in Singapore
Gardens by the Bay and the Supertrees
Gardens by the Bay is one of the most iconic attractions in Singapore. The park features futuristic metal trees, known as the Supertrees, which are connected by a high walkway. To make the most of your visit, come in the evening for the spectacular light and sound show. The show runs at 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM, and the best view can be found on the grassed lawn in front of the Supertrees.
Marina Bay
The Marina Bay area is the heart of the city, with plenty of opportunities for sightseeing and photos. Take a leisurely walk along the water and admire the city’s skyline. At night, there’s a stunning light show that you can watch from Merlion Park, located right by the water.
Marina Bay Sands Hotel
Marina Bay Sands is the iconic landmark that dominates Singapore’s skyline. While you can enjoy shopping and dining in the luxurious mall inside, be sure to head up to the 57th floor to the Skydeck for breathtaking panoramic views of the city. The view from up there is simply unmatched.
Clarke Quay
Clarke Quay is a riverside quay filled with vibrant nightlife, restaurants, and entertainment options. It’s also the departure point for river cruises that take you around the city, offering a unique perspective of Singapore’s iconic landmarks.
Little Arabia (Arab Street)
For a different experience, head to Little Arabia. This area is filled with cozy boutiques, restaurants, and antique shops. One of the main attractions here is the Sultan Mosque, built in 1824 for Sultan Hussain Shah, Singapore’s first Sultan. It’s an awe-inspiring mosque with a stunning golden dome, and you can enter the mosque from Musqat Street. Don’t forget to stroll down Haji Lane, a colorful and charming street with cafes, shops, and a lively, car-free atmosphere on weekends.
Chinatown
We stayed in Chinatown during our first visit at Scarlet Singapore, which is centrally located for sightseeing. Chinatown is home to the famous Chinatown street market, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, and many cultural attractions. Best Food in Singapore
Finding halal food in Singapore is easy, and one of the things we loved about the country is that even international fast-food chains like McDonald’s, Burger King, and KFC offer halal options.
Haji Lane and Arab Street
For Middle Eastern cuisine, head to Haji Lane and Arab Street. This area is a haven for Turkish and Lebanese food lovers. I recommend trying a delicious mezze platter with hummus, kebabs, or falafel for an authentic Middle Eastern meal. If you’re in the mood for a burger, “I Am” in Haji Lane serves one of the best burgers I’ve ever had!
Local Cuisine
For a true taste of Singapore, try the famous Murtabak at Zam Zam Restaurant, located near Sultan Mosque on Northbridge Road. This is a local favorite, and the restaurant is popular with Singaporeans, so you’re guaranteed an authentic meal.
